Welcome to our siteThis page is under construction, or a "work in progress", so please bear with us! News Updates as of April 17th 2008: Special Needs Registry up and running. Reverse-911 fully operational.
The Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management has completed a deal for a new emergency warning system that will have a significant benefit for the citizens of Brigantine. It is what is known as "Reverse-911". In the event of an emergency, be it weather or other related emergencies, we will be able to call the entire island. It should take less than a couple of hours to send out a pre-recorded message to the entire island! The county, in conjunction with a company called Global Connect, have a computerized system that uses the power of the internet to place many calls at once. The phone numbers come from the New Jersey State 911 Database. So that means, whether your number is listed or not. You will be able to be notified. e.! The system will only be used in the event of a serious incident or event. So along with our 1640AM station, Comcast cable, and our local system, we now have one more way to get the word out to the island. In conjunction with the Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management and the NJ State Office of Emergency Management, the NJ Register Ready site is up and running. It is more commonly known as the "Special Needs Registry". It is for those folks who are unable(medically, no family, etc) to evacuate themselves in the event of a major incident. Once you register(providing as much information as possible), you will be called when an evacuation order is issued, and evacuated to a shelter(or medical facility when needed) first. It is a one shot deal, if you are called and cannot or will not go at that time, you wont be called again, and could potentially have to wait for evacuation behind other members of the community. We would encourage all persons of need to register! You can click this link to register online or contact the office for assistance. Pamphlets and forms have also been placed at the Atlantic County Library and the Brigantine Nutrition Center. Again, any problems or questions, please contact our office.
Up next, we are looking to put together a package of emergency warning signs. They will consist of signs similar to what is seen in school zones or on the highway. In the event of an emergency, lights will flash on the sign and direct you to tune into our radio station. From there, we will have the necessary information or direct you to the television or other media. Any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.
